Community College CEO Compensation

How well are community college CEOs compensated? AACC has released the latest findings of community college presidents' salary in a new research brief: Compensation and Benefits of Community College CEOs: 2012 (PDF). This brief provides an in-depth look at the current compensation of community college CEOs, and some of the characteristics of CEOs today.

Some of the key findings include:

  • The reported median salary for all respondents in 2012 was $167,000 and mean base salary was $173,848.
  • Median total cash compensation reported was $177,642 and mean total cash compensation was $182,982.
  • The median age of the respondents was 60 years, with about 50% of the respondents between the ages of 55 and 64.
  • About 75% of the respondent reported that they plan to retire within the next 10 years.

Community College CEO Compensation Comparison Tool

The Compensation and Benefits of Community College CEOs: 2012 dashboard allows AACC member presidents to drill down into the compensation data on an interactive dashboard. CEOs filter the data and view average salary based on user selected institutional characteristics. Average salary by key variables such as gender, race-ethnicity, tenure, institution type, institution size, region, and urbanicity can be displayed.
