The Pell Grant Program in 2011-12
The Pell Grant program continues to serve a large number of students
- Total Pell Grant recipients 2011-12: 9,661,460
- Total Pell Grant recipients at public 2-year institutions: 3,350,340 (37% of total)
- Total Pell Grant expenditures 2011-12: $33.378 billion
- Total Pell Grant expenditures at public 2-year institutions: $11.2 billion (33% of total)
Pell Grant expenditures level-off for each of the major sectors
The Pell Grant program expenditures decreased by $2.2 billion from 2010-11 to 2011-12, from $35.578 billion to $33.378 billion. From 2010-11 to 2011-12:
- Expenditures at Public 2-year institutions decreased 1.8%
- Expenditures at Public 4-year institutions decreased 2.8%
- Expenditures at Private, non-profit institutions decreased 6.6%
- Expenditures at For-profit institutions decreased 18.7%Community colleges continue to serve more Pell recipients
The Pell Grant Program, Through the 2nd Quarter of 2012-13
- Total Pell Grant recipients through the second quarter of 2012-13: 7,299,958
- Total Pell Grant recipients at public 2-year institutions: 2,503,253 (34% of total)
- Total Pell Grant expenditures through the second quarter of 2012-13: $16.556 billion
- Total Pell Grant expenditures at public 2-year institutions: $5.0 billion (30% of total)
