Community colleges educate a diverse student population with a wide array of needs. The Advancing Diversity Award recognizes colleges that are dedicated to increasing diversity and advocating for social equity on their campuses and in the community. Diversity is a cornerstone of Seminole State College’s mission. A centerpiece of the college’s commitment to diversity is the 10-year initiative to engage its students and the region with the work of playwright August Wilson.

Lone Star College-CyFair

At Lone Star College–CyFair, diversity is viewed as an opportunity for teaching and learning, for curricular coherence, and student success. The college developed student programs and activities that celebrate diversity and are aligned with the curricular activities of faculty.

St. Louis Community College

The Scholarships for Education and Economic Development program at St. Louis Community College gives educational opportunities to young people from Central America, the Caribbean, and Mexico. These students often arrive in American possessing only a desire to learn. After the 2-year program, they are well-armed with the knowledge to change the lives of their families, their communities, and their countries.
