Quote from the President

“At Kirkwood Community College we create educational programming that benefits students, local employers and the overall good of those who live in our seven-county service area. Kirkwood’s regional centers help meet the changing needs of residents, industry and K-12 partner institutions, preparing high school, traditional and adult students with the skills needed to find work in eastern Iowa. We’re known for accessible and affordable, quality education and training. We pride ourselves as being ‘the community’s college,’ and we truly are."

Interesting Facts

  • The Hotel at Kirkwood Center provides a real-life training laboratory. Instructors supervise students in the daily operation of The Class Act Restaurant, bakery, catering service and operation of the hotel. The 71-room facility earned the American Automobile Association’s prestigious Four Diamond Award for lodging twice, one of just three hotels in Iowa with the award.
  • The college commissioned a 407-foot tall, 2.5 MW wind turbine and solar panels on campus that not only save close to $400,000 a year in energy costs, but allow for real-world training for students in the energy production and distribution technologies program.
  • Kirkwood’s regional centers are community campuses crafted by deep partnerships between Kirkwood, area school districts and local industry, meeting the needs of rural and urban populations. Courses offered at the centers make education more accessible to everyone, from high school students up through adults who might need certification for a promotion or a new career. Kirkwood’s industry partners provide thoughtful input for the classes offered at each location, helping directly meet the employment needs of specific regions.
