 AACC John E. Roueche Future Leaders Institute 

The AACC John E. Roueche Future Leaders Institute, or Roueche-FLI, is an innovative leadership seminar designed for mid-level community college administrators who look to be leaders in their current positions or are ready to move into a higher level of leadership. These individuals are currently in a position that is responsible for multiple employees, including faculty, administrators and/or staff and probably have titles such as Vice President, Dean, Professor, Associate Professor, Associate Dean, or Director.

The faculty for the institute is drawn from the community college leadership field and are highly skilled presidents, chancellors, and groundbreaking leaders. Institute faculty leverage their community college leadership expertise and field-based practical skills to create new knowledge and enduring concepts that shape the practice of community college leadership.

Upcoming Dates

The next AACC Roueche - FLI is scheduled to take place from December 3 - 6, 2017 in Washington, DC.  The program will begin at 1:00pm on December 3 and end at 12:00 noon on December 6.


The registration fee for the Roueche-FLI is $1500 for employees of member colleges, and $1800 for employees of non-member colleges.  Fees include meals provided through the institute as well as supplies.  All fees must be paid prior to the start of the program. 

Cancellation Fee - A fee of $250 will be imposed for ALL cancelled registrations.  No refunds will be given after November 10, 2017.

Before applying, please assemble all of the pertinent information required for your application.  These items include: your current resume (PDF), a letter of recommendation for the program from your college CEO or department's vice president/chancellor (PDF), and your professional headshot (at least 300dpi in one of the following formats: jpeg, jpg, tif, tiff, or gif). Meeting Location

Participants will stay at the Washington Hilton located at 1919 Connecticut Ave., NW in Washington, DC. A room block has been created for December 3-6, 2017 for $219/night plus taxes. The reservation cutoff date is November 18. Please note that parking is an additional $40/night or $48/night for valet.

All “call-in” reservations can be made by calling 1-800-HILTONS and referring to group code: AACCFL. Individuals can also make their reservations online at The cut-off date, or the last day to make reservations in the block, is November 18, 2017.

 John E. Roueche Future Leaders Institute Award

The American Association of Community Colleges' (AACC) John E. Roueche Future Leaders Institute Award is named in honor of Dr. John E. Roueche, a nationally recognized authority in community college education. Dr. Roueche has played an important role in shaping community college leadership over the last 40 years and has written 35 books and over 150 chapters and articles. He has spoken to more than 1,300 community colleges and universities since 1970 and has accumulated honors and awards that are too numerous to name.

The $500 award will be applied toward the Roueche-FLI registration fee. (Member registration rate is $1500; non-member registration rate is $1800.) To learn about the award, click here.

 Roueche-FLI Curriculum

The AACC John E. Roueche Future Leaders Institute is designed for mid-level community college administrators. These individuals typically have the title of Dean, Associate Dean or Director and are responsible for multiple employees on their campus.
