Dean of Continuing Education
Bergen Community College, the largest community college in New Jersey, serving a diverse student body on its suburban campus, has a leadership opportunity for the Dean of Continuing Education. The Dean of Continuing Education provides supervision of scheduling, registration, and assigned program supervisors and coordinators; develops and conducts non-credit programs in assigned areas; recruits and evaluates program personnel; develops and disseminates promotional literature; serves as the liaison with community, corporate, public and non-profit organizations; promotes Continuing Education and the College in the community; oversees contract and corporate training; and maintains linkages with the academic divisions. This position provides leadership and direction to assigned program supervisors and coordinators; maintains continuity of efforts; develops and supervises programs; gathers all relevant data and prepares required divisional reports; assesses community needs and makes recommendations for educational/training programs designed to address identified needs; maintains communications with community organizations, governmental and law enforcement, public schools and the academic divisions; supervises preparation of schedules and publicity for programs, courses, workshops, seminars, and other non-credit events for review by the Vice President for Academic Services; provides support and/or direction for the supervision of instructors, panelists, seminar and workshop leaders and others in carrying out their respective duties for non-credit programs; oversees the preparation and submission of payrolls within assigned programs; recommends and orders approved textbooks and related instructional materials and equipment; supervises the registration and accounting functions for the Division of Continuing Education; prepares closeout audits for each course offering and for the signature of the Vice President for Academic Services, financial and programmatic reports to co-sponsoring and collaborating agencies; attends workshops, courses, meetings and other activities; implements College and divisional policies and procedures; performs other duties as may be assigned. This position reports to the Vice President for Academic Services.
Required: Master’s degree in relevant field; Doctorate preferred. Must have five years experience in program development and coordination of non-credit courses. Experience in budget development and management, as well as, knowledge of payroll procedures is required. Experience in supervision and in working with community organization of outreach programs preferred. Must be team oriented with the ability to work effectively and efficiently with all levels of College employees. Must have excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, as well as manage organizational change and growth.
