Job Description
Provide instruction in the Sustainable Landscape Horticulture Associate Degree and Horticulture Technician programs. Responsible for placing learning first and providing educational experiences for learners in various formats, schedules, and in various places in accordance with the mission of the college inclusive of: facilitating learning, assessing student performance, as well as instruction and outcomes, developing and maintaining current/relevant course materials, and communicating with the community, other schools, the college, the division, and team members.
· Responsible for the development and presentation of curriculum for the courses offered during the program.
· Work with staff to design, develop, and construct facilities to include a greenhouse, head house, hoop houses, classroom, and other structures.
· Design, develop, and maintain Environmental Campus and surrounding grounds to be used in the delivery of the program.
· Provide safety related instruction in the use of tools and equipment used in the landscape/horticulture industry.
· Remain current with the field of sustainability/landscape/horticulture and track trends in the industry.
Required Qualifications*
· Bachelor’s degree and training preparing the individual for the occupational area being taught required with a minimum of two years (4,000 hours) recent related occupational experience in landscape design, planning, construction and maintenance; nursery operation and management; greenhouse operation and management; or lawn and garden care operation and management.
· Comprehensive understanding of sustainable landscape/horticulture, including the following: landscaping design, installation, and maintenance; native Wisconsin plant communities; relevant tools and equipment; and turf grass/lawn care management.
· Experience in the safe use and operation of landscape equipment.
· Knowledge of year-round, seasonally appropriate activities and equipment.
· Working knowledge of PC software in a windows environment including computer-aided design, GIS, and GPS.
· Must be innovative and able to collaborate with other staff for developing curriculum for classroom instruction.
· Must be well motivated and have a strong interest in contributing to the success of the College.
· Positive human relations and effective written and oral communication skills essential.
· Exemplify college values in all staff and student interactions as well as services delivered.
Other Qualifications*
· Master’s degree preferred. If no master’s degree, individual hired will be required to enroll in an accredited Master’s degree program in a related discipline.
· Two years teaching or training experience beneficial and/or one year of curriculum design/development experience.
· A valid State of Wisconsin Commercial Pesticide Applicator Certifications (Category 3.0 & 3.1) desirable.
· Experience with the operation and maintenance of larger landscape equipment desirable.
· Other green industry memberships/certifications desirable.
· Knowledge and experience in the use of various landscape layout software.
· Possess excellent classroom delivery skills, which encourage success and participation on the part of students.
· Ability to maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, and the general public.
· Ability to relate successfully with students, staff, and general public of diverse cultural, social or educational backgrounds.

Conditions of Employment
