CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Dean is administratively responsible for the smooth and efficient functioning of the Division of Health to ensure high quality programs of instruction. Manages employees in the department and is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the institutions policies and applicable laws. This position is responsible for all areas in the health department including all grant funded projects i.e. the dental clinic, the dental hygiene program and etc. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Serves as education/support function leader for the Division. Supervises and assists faculty and staff and encourages their professional development activities; promotes effective communication within the Division; prepares class schedules; evaluates faculty and staff in accordance with University policies; administers screening and hiring procedures for faculty and staff. Assists in establishing advisory committees; maintains internal and external fiscal accounting for the Division including preparing budget requests, allocating funds and approving expenditures, and supervising maintenance of fiscal records. Maintains communication with the Vice President for Academic Affairs and the faculty and staff of the Division to share views, information, and perspectives; communicates with other divisions, offices, and services. Ensures that all programs requiring accreditation are in compliance with the accrediting agency guidelines and oversees that the programs pursue excellence in this process; Serves on Instructional and Curriculum Council Committee, and other faculty and institutional committees as appointed or elected. Communicates with the community to promote the University and its programs to the community and participate in community affairs. Promotes faculty and staff participation in community affairs, supervises textbook orders within adopted policies, and performs other duties as deemed necessary or assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree from an accredited university. Five years related experience and/or training. The employee must possess the ability to supervise multiple programs and the knowledge of state and federal rules and regulations as they apply to higher education. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience working in a comprehensive community college environment.
