Executive Director of Finance

Bergen Community College, the largest community college in New Jersey, serving a diverse student body on its suburban campus, has a leadership opportunity for an Executive Director of Finance to direct, plan, implement and evaluate all aspects of budgeting, financial reporting and auditing processes for the College. The Executive Director of Finance will provide leadership and coordinate the planning, development and implementation of innovative approaches to fiscal management. Responsibilities include but are not limited to acting as liaison with external governing bodies on the behalf of the College; preparing, editing, managing and reconciling budgets; providing for the internal allocation and regulation of funds through requisitions and internal adjustment; writing reconciliation procedures; preparing documentation for budget hearings and Board of School Estimates; conducting financial analyses; participating in policy development in matters of fiscal management and business operations in conformity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); preparing annual financial reports for audit and public distribution; managing and coordinating annual external and internal audit activities; performing additional tasks or duties as assigned.
Required: Master’s Degree in Business and/or related field with a minimum of 5 years of experience in community college financial management. Additional experience desired with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems experience such as Datatel, Banner, etc; outsourced payroll systems such as ADP and/or internal payroll system; Audit and Fund Accounting in a public sector business and/or higher education; government accounting standards as set by the Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB); Annual Financial Reporting audit processes; Federal and State reporting requirements. Must possess solid knowledge of fund accounting principles; budget-related administrative assignments and budget management; Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); management practices within a complex budgetary environment. Must have understanding of the community college mission and open door access policy; knowledge of contemporary issues in higher education; intermediate proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel and demonstrated proficiency in standard office software applications, automated financial systems (Datatel, Banner, ADP, etc.) and administrative software applications. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, in addition to strong customer service skills with an emphasis on student focus. Must have demonstrated effective leadership and management skills, including the ability to develop and administer budgets, plan, organize, build relationships and assure employee and department accountability.
