College Description: Suffolk County Community College (SCCC) is an outstanding multi- campus community college with an excellent reputation for high quality instruction, programs and services. The College is the largest community college in New York State and educates over 26,000 credit students and 10,000 non-credit and workforce training students on its three campuses – Ammerman (Selden, NY), Eastern (Riverhead, NY), and Michael J. Director of Construction
The Director of Construction reports to the Executive Director of Facilities or the Administrative Director of Facilities as appropriate. Specific responsibilities include the following:
1. Reviews project design drawings and specifications prepared by consultants for code compliance, design standards compliance, operational efficiencies and compliance with College standards.
2. Serves as “clerk of the works” during the construction phases of contracted construction projects. This includes daily construction oversight, serving as an interface between architects, engineers, contractors, College staff and College administration, reviewing design drawings and specifications, scheduling work, tracking all project paperwork including submissions, requests for information, payment requisitions, sketches, drawings, etc. Schedules construction meetings and is responsible for construction meeting minutes and their distribution to appropriate individuals.
3. Prepares design drawings and specifications for in house projects. Ensures these documents are in compliance with the relevant building codes and submits documentation to Suffolk County Department of Public Works to obtain building permits when applicable.
4. Provides the following construction project services for in house projects: provides supervision of in-house construction staff; cost estimating; purchasing of materials and obtaining the services of specialty contractors; serving as the interface between Plant Operations, Building Administrator and Building Occupants; ensuring compliance with applicable building codes; producing project schedules using critical path and other methods; supervising in house and contracted construction workers; verifying contractors time sheets; approving contractor payments.
