Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
Fulfill the professional responsibilities of a full-time faculty member, including, but not limited to: teaching all scheduled classes (courses may range from calculus-based courses for physics, applied mathematics, robotics, and materials science with the focus being on computer aided modeling, engineering, and fee-based workforce development courses; following the course outline; developing and maintaining laboratories in the engineering program; keeping and submitting accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, progress, and grades; posting and maintaining scheduled office hours; developing curriculum; developing and maintaining relationships with feeder schools as well as the business/industry community; participating as an advisor to student science-based clubs and outreach activities; and participating in departmental meetings and college-wide activities and committees. As part of the broader Irvine Valley College effort to expand our Career and Technical Education course of study and by building relationships with local employers, the candidate will also be responsible for working with faculty outside of the core drafting and engineering discipline, to not only identify new courses for development, but teach, and market the offerings within the scope of meeting business needs in high technology. Comply with all SOCCCD, IVC, and Engineering Department policies with regard to participation in general faculty functions related to the educational program, staff development/flex-calendar activities, committee work, and departmental and school meetings. Finally, full time faculty must maintain formal office hours and perform necessary clerical and administrative tasks in a timely manner.
The successful candidate must meet one of the following criteria:
1. Master’s degree or higher in engineering from an accredited college or university; OR
2. Bachelor’s degree in engineering AND a Master’s degree in mathematics, physics, computer science, chemistry, or geology from an accredited college or university; OR
3. Valid California Community College instructor credential appropriate to the subject per Education Code 87355 (issued prior to July 1, 1990); OR
4. A combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent of items 1 or 2 above (Applicants applying on the basis of equivalency must submit the Supplemental Application for Equivalency Determination form in addition to all other required materials). (NOTE: A Bachelor’s in any field of engineering with a professional engineer’s license that is valid in California is an alternative qualification for this discipline, pursuant to Title 5 Section 53410.1.)
•One year of recent experience teaching engineering at the college level.
•Evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
•Earned Doctorate in an engineering-related field, or an additional Master’s Or Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, physics, or mathematics.
•2 years of demonstrated ability to teach multiple disciplines employing hands-on or project-based learning methods.
•Proficiency with any or all of the following software programs: AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, REVIT, Civil 3D, Excel, MATLAB, Maple, Multi-SIM, Google Earth, and B2Spice.
•Excellent communication skills and experience in writing and executing grants.
•Demonstrated commitment to teaching engineering subjects and developing curriculum to California state standards.
