Job Title

Associate Provost, Workforce Development

Company

Harrisburg Area Community College

Location

Harrisburg, PA

Job Description

Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC), Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, was established in 1964 and remains the largest and oldest of the state’s 14 community colleges. With campuses in Gettysburg, Harrisburg, Lancaster, Lebanon, and York as well as off-site learning locations, HACC serves roughly 50,000 credit and non-credit students and offers nearly 200 degree and certificate programs as well as numerous workforce development programs. Led by a dynamic, entrepreneurial President in John J. “Ski” Sygielski, who previously chaired the board for the American Association of Community Colleges, HACC is committed to being the first choice for students seeking a quality, accessible higher education. For more information, please visit www.hacc.edu. HACC seeks an enthusiastic, experienced professional to join the College as the new Associate Provost, Workforce Development. Reporting to the Provost, the Associate Provost coordinates the administrative offices supporting the workforce function and provides leadership and supervision to the programmatic offerings of the department as well as to faculty and academic administration in planning curriculum and developing, reviewing, and implementing programs. The Associate Provost will support the “one-college concept,” which is instrumental in ensuring a positive working relationship between the Office of Workforce Development and other academic and operational departments. Qualifications: A master’s degree in business, education, or a related field and five years progressively responsible experience related to workforce development, including management or administrative experience in a corporate or higher education setting, is strongly preferred; however, candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job will also be considered. Experience in sales and marketing is crucial. In addition, the successful candidate will possess: • Demonstrated knowledge of effective management and leadership models and techniques. • Experience in supervising staff and developing talent on a team. • Experience in building effective collaborative initiatives to deliver corporate education and/or business services. • A high level of analytical, written, and presentation skills. • Experience in budget management and achieving revenue targets. • Demonstrated expertise in organizational development, project planning, and implementation. • Experience delivering oral and/or written presentations to key strategic internal and external stakeholders. Environment: Harrisburg, the capital of the Commonwealth, is a diverse city with nearly 50,000 residents in its municipal boundaries and over 500,000 within its metropolitan area. The seat of both state and county government, and housing a number of regional federal offices, the city plays host to thousands of visitors daily. Tens of thousands of tourists annually visit Pennsylvania Dutch country, Hershey Park, the National Civil War Museum, the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex and Expo Center, and other local and regional attractions and cultural venues. Numerous state and national parks and recreation areas take advantage of the bordering Susquehanna River, and there are active regional professional and semi-professional teams playing hockey, soccer, basketball, and football, as well as the Harrisburg Senators baseball club, an affiliate of the Washington Nationals. With a moderate cost of living, temperate climate, good public schools, a wide selection of private secondary and post-secondary educational options, world class health care systems, and easy transportation to the major cities of the eastern seaboard, the Harrisburg-Carlisle metropolitan area was, in 2010, named by Forbes magazine as the second best place in the United States to raise a family. Application: Interested candidates should submit a cover letter and résumé only to RPA Inc. at haccworkforce@rpainc.org. For a confidential discussion, call Isaac Karaffa, Senior Recruitment Specialist, at 800-992-9277. Review of candidates will begin March 28, 2014, and first round interviews will commence shortly thereafter. HACC is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. Qualified women and minorities are encouraged to apply.
