Humber College Institute of Technology & Advanced Learning (Humber) is one of Canada’s leading postsecondary institutions. Humber’s President, Dr. Chris Whitaker has led Humber through a comprehensive strategic planning process resulting in strong buy-in for a new 2013-2018 strategic plan (a copy of which is available on Humber’s website). Reporting to the President, as a member of the executive team, the Vice-President, Academic will be responsible for the planning, development, organizing, staffing, directing and the content and delivery of the College’s post-secondary and non post-secondary, full- and part-time academic programs and services, administration and integrity of the educational affairs of the College. As the Chief Academic Officer in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial and flexible culture that values innovation and risk-taking, you will anticipate and meet the demands of Humber’s unprecedented growth and new development within a changing economic world.
Candidates should meet the following criteria: Ph.D. (preferred), Master’s degree (essential); proven success in academic leadership role in a polytechnic/large college/applied university - with a mix of full-time and part-time, apprenticeships, diplomas, degrees and graduate certificates; experience in more than one post-secondary institution is ideal. Complementing this expertise, candidates should have a minimum of 12 years work-related experience; demonstrated track record in leading progressive and positive change with academic staff; proven ability to develop and sustain strong relationships internally and externally, especially in a unionized environment; and success in developing new, innovative and progressive programs that lead to student success. Successful experience in building capacity in Applied Research and International experience (have lived and worked internationally, or, have developed successful international programs and initiatives) are important criteria. Demonstrated collaborative and inclusive leadership success, and, a reputation for being a strong team player at leadership level, contributing to the success of other institutional leaders and the organization are essential. In summary, Humber is seeking an academic leader with integrity, credibility and the ability to win trust; vision/foresight; ability to rally others around a shared vision; and the ability to deliver planned results.
