AACC has received its sixth consecutive three-year grant from the Learn and Serve America program of the Corporation for National and Community Service to continue the work of its longtime initiative, Community Colleges Broadening Horizons through Service Learning. The $1.1 million grant will fund 24 colleges to expand course-based service learning in two areas: New Media Leaders (using Web 2.0/social media) and No Child Left Inside (environmental education). Both areas focus on assisting community-based organizations and K-12 schools that have suffered programming and staff cuts due to the economic downturn. AACC will also create civic engagement webinars, podcasts, and vodcasts in a train-the-trainer format for widespread use. A request for proposals for college subgrants will be issued in early 2010.
